Flooring Installation: Choose Floors You Can Actually Live On Without Constant Worry

Floors matter more than most people realize because they’re literally the one surface in your home you’re touching constantly with every step you take, every spill that happens, every dish that slips, every muddy shoe tracking through, and every pet nail scratching across landing directly on them day after day.

Right now, you’re probably stressing about your floors way more than you should by worrying about scratches, getting anxious every time someone spills something, and constantly yelling about shoes, but living like that’s exhausting and completely unnecessary when you have the right flooring installed the right way.

Art Smart has installed flooring throughout North Texas for over 17 years in hundreds of homes covering thousands of square feet,
and every single project has taught us something about what holds up under real family conditions and what fails prematurely.

Hardwood That Actually Lasts Fifty Years (Most Doesn't)

We install wood flooring only where it genuinely makes sense for how you live, not everywhere just because hardwood’s trendy, which means we only recommend it where it truly works for your lifestyle and maintenance tolerance.

Real hardwood brings warmth and natural character that synthetics can’t touch, and when installed correctly, it lasts decades while getting refinished multiple times throughout its life to renew its beauty each round.

Installation quality determines everything because hardwood must acclimate to your home’s humidity before installation, which takes several days, and contractors who skip this to save time create floors that develop gaps or cupping within months. We never skip it after watching too many expensive failures from rushed work.

Bobby discusses hardwood honestly with every client because it scratches and there’s no avoiding that reality, water damages it if spills aren’t cleaned promptly, and maintenance is real and ongoing. If you have large dogs running through the house constantly, he’ll tell you straight that luxury vinyl may serve you better long term, but if you’re committed to hardwood, he’ll guide you toward harder species and finishes that hide wear more effectively.

Why Some Luxury Vinyl Fails in Five Years While Others Last Twenty

Luxury vinyl installation has become our most common project for one simple reason: it handles real family life better than almost any other material available today.

It’s completely waterproof, not just water-resistant, which means you can spill an entire glass of wine and wipe it up whenever without damage or panic about ruining your investment, and that peace of mind matters when you’re living your actual life.

It’s scratch-resistant enough that normal pet nails won’t destroy it over time, dent-resistant enough that dropped pots don’t create permanent craters, and comfortable enough underfoot that standing on it while cooking doesn’t hurt your feet and back the way tile does.

But installation quality makes the complete difference between luxury vinyl lasting twenty years and starting to fail within five, where the difference isn’t the product itself but how carefully it gets installed.

Subfloor preparation matters enormously because the surface underneath must be perfectly smooth and level, where any imperfection telegraphs through and creates wear points that fail prematurely. We address every dip, bump, and uneven spot before laying a single plank. Installation technique separates good floors from failed floors because planks must click together completely without gaps, seams must align properly, expansion gaps around perimeters must be sized correctly, and cut edges around doorways must be clean and precise.

Bobby helps you choose luxury vinyl that matches your specific priorities, where some products look more realistic, some are more durable for high-traffic zones, some feel noticeably better underfoot, and some cost less if budget’s your main concern.
We explain these trade-offs honestly so you can decide what matters most for your situation.

Tile Installation: Why Some Cracks and Ours Doesn't

We install tile in bathrooms, entryways, laundry rooms, and kitchens where moisture resistance is critical because tile is indestructible when installed correctly, with heavy emphasis on “correctly.” We start with proper substrate prep because the surface must be completely stable and level using cement board or manufacturer-specified underlayment, where any flex causes cracking and any unevenness creates lippage where one tile edge sits higher than the next.

We use the exact thinset adhesive your tile manufacturer specifies for your substrate combination, not whatever’s on sale, and tiles get spaced correctly for natural expansion while cuts are clean around fixtures and wet areas are sloped properly so water drains instead of pooling.
Grout quality matters as much as the tile itself, which is why we mix it to the right consistency, apply it completely into joints without voids, clean it before it sets too hard, and seal it after it cures.

Our installation methods prevent the cracking, loose tiles, and grout failures that come from rushed work so we can do it right the first time and make your floors last decades.
